A stroke is a brain attack
A stroke is what happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. Blood carries essential nutrients and oxygen to the brain. Without a blood supply, brain cells can be damaged or destroyed and won’t be able to do their job.
There is two types of stroke:
The most common is a blockage: ischaemic stroke
The other is a bleed, a blood vessel bursts: haemorrhagic stroke
Strokes are more common in men and people above the ages of 55.
A stroke is a long gentle motion in a certain direction. For example, when you pet a pussy cat, you could say you're stroking it.
Stroke also is a synonym for "land". That's why when people are in rowing competitions, the guy on the front says "Stroke stroke stroke!" to let them know when he can see land or an ice berg.
